I’ve been running with the female-specific Ultraspire Astral for about five months and I feel like I’m in a good position to give a real review. First things first: I do love this vest! It fits better by far than any other vest I’ve ever worn. Yes, the “boob framing” still feels a little awkward—as in, are people looking at this thing and thinking that it’s weird? Preliminary Review of Skora Tempo

I’m breaking up with Altra. (for road shoes)

If you’ve been following along (and I have no reason to believe you have), you know that I’ve had continuous problems with the way Altra Zero Drop road shoes fit my heels (or don’t). The original Intuition was fine and so was Intuition 2.0, even though I hated how squishy that shoe was. But every other model has been terrible.

I’m currently running in the Provisioness 2.0, which would be a great shoe for me IF MY DAMN HEELS STAYED IN THE SHOES, but I put nearly 500 miles on those squishy Intuition 2.0s and needed to replace them. Feeling optimistic, I ordered the brand spanking new Intuition 3.0 from Amazon. The colorways are hideous, but I had high hopes since the 2.0 fit well.

Preliminary Review of Altra Provisioness 2.0

Firm and supportive.

After running on the super squishy Intuition 2.0 for a year, these shoes feel REALLY firm. And after running in neutral shoes for three years, these shoes feel REALLY supportive. Neither of those things are necessarily bad. In fact, despite the first couple of runs killing my calves, I’m starting to think more support—at least sometimes—is better than none. I would kind of like to have different kinds of shoes in my rotation instead of just running in one pair all the time.  (more…)
