Wow! I can’t believe we’re three weeks into January and I haven’t made a 2014 post yet!
I typically cut way back on running through December and January, so it’s kind of a quiet rest time. I set a modest goal of 50 miles for this month, just to give me a little bit of motivation. I’m at 32 miles and it has been tough to get even that many, given our blizzard conditions and sub-zero temperatures.
So far this year I’ve registered for two shorter races: the Cherry Tree 10-Mile, which I run every February, and the Brooklyn Half Marathon in May. I haven’t run the Brooklyn Half since 2011 and I haven’t run a half marathon since the Staten Island Half later that year. I’m sure it will be fun, but I haven’t yet decided how hard to train for it.
I also have my eye on the Broadway Ultra Society 6-Hour Run on March 30. I’m 99.9% positive I’m running that. I really really loved the 6-hour race I ran back in September and I’ve been looking forward to another one.
And finally, I haven’t been able to hone in on a good long race for 2014. Last year I was so focused, with a 50-mile goal to reach, but when I failed at that attempt I kind of lost my mojo. Now I’m a woman without a plan. I can’t decide if I should try to find another 50-mile race and go back into hard training or use this year to rest and stick with 50ks and timed races. (There are plenty of both in the immediate area.)
Stay tuned…
