I had high hopes for this event this year, thinking I may have learned some good lessons last year. I really really wanted to run past 29 miles (two more loops), but once again I didn’t make it past 28.

Last year I had stomach issues early in the event which then morphed into bladder issues. This year I felt good for the first four hours and then had bladder issues again! And this time they were actually worse, pain-wise. More about that later. Read More

I didn’t run as much as I expected to this winter, but when I did run, I added in hills as often as possible. That still definitely wasn’t enough to be even reasonably prepared for the Sybil Ludington 50k. Holy HILLS, Batman! Here is the elevation chart:

I’m still baffled and amused by this description of the course I overheard:  “It has three significant climbs.” To me, it had about 15 significant climbs.  lol Read More

The 2014 6 Hour Ultra Marathon Race did not turn out to be an ultramarathon for me. This was my fourth 6-hour run and I would have enjoyed it if not for a hip problem that creeped up on me by mile 12. I managed eight more before giving up. I could barely walk by mile 20, much less run.

I ran this event in 2013, when it had been temporarily moved to another Staten Island park. I think I liked the other course a little better, although this one was much more scenic. Clove Lakes Park consists of three small lakes; the course consisted of a 2-mile loop on a paved path circling the lower two. There were a couple of hills, but it was flat for the most part. Read More
